Endoscopy Insights Podcast Launched

Each episode will explore the ways different clinical and technological innovations are moving endoscopy forward and will also analyze infection control challenges and other issues facing the field.

Single-Use Endoscopy has launched a new podcast called Endoscopy Insights, which will showcase conversations with thought leaders in flexible and single-use endoscopy.

Each episode will explore the ways different clinical and technological innovations are moving endoscopy forward and will also analyze infection control challenges and other issues facing the field. New episodes, which will run about 20 minutes in length, will be released on the first Thursday of the month (starting Oct. 7) and be distributed through all the major podcasting platforms, including Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

The first episodes feature Dr. Hudson Garrett, CEO of Community Health Associates LLC in Atlanta and co-founder of the nonprofit Infection Prevention Institute, and Dr. Larry Muscarella, an independent quality improvement and healthcare safety expert who’s been consulting and writing on the topic of infection control for more than two decades.

Muscarella breaks down a recent announcement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that it is investigating “numerous” medical device reports describing patient infections and other possible contamination issues possibly associated with reprocessed urological endoscopes.

Garrett, meanwhile, dissects a recent safety communication update from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on reprocessing flexible bronchoscopes, including a recommendation that healthcare providers consider using single-use bronchoscopes when there is increased risk of spreading infection and when treating COVID-19 patients.

Another soon-to-be-released episode assesses innovative designs in single-use endoscope technology used to perform endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography procedures.

Podcasts are fueling a recent boom in on-demand audio. The number of monthly U.S. podcast listeners is projected to grow 10 percent this year, to 117.8 million, according to research firm eMarketer.

The podcast is part of Ambu’s SingleUseEndoscopy.com online learning center, which features articles, videos, webinars, continuing education courses, and other content geared to a wide-ranging audience of clinical professionals and healthcare executives.

Endoscopy Insights is hosted by Single-Use Endoscopy editor Rob Terry, an award-winning former business journalist.
